Lemnian Athena - Item #87by The Giust Gallery $ 430.00
17 Inches High
Widely believed to be a Roman marble copy of a Greek bronze original of a Greek goddess, probably the famous Athena Lemnia by Phidias, which stood on the Acropolis in Athens. The original piece was from c.450 B.C.E. The copy was probably made between the late first century B.C.E. and early first century C.E. Furtwangler has identified the marble head in the Museo Civico in Bologna and two full statues in Dresden as copies of the original Athena Lemnia by Phidias.
