This dancing satyr was found in 1830 at a house in Pompeii, which now bears the name ‘House of Faun’. Satyrs, half men, half goat were companions of Dionysus, the god of wine. Indeed the satyr pictured here has enjoyed the flow of wine and is happily dancing along. c.200 B.C.E.
