Center of Milton Shield. The shield was created in 1867 for the Paris Exhibition. There it was so admired that the British government bought it for 3,000 pounds. The shield demonstrates the process of repouse, a technique in which the metal is shaped by hammering from the reverse side. See item 132 for full shield.
