1848 Original is Bronze. Charles Cordier’s first and most successful ethnographic sculpture. Cordier created it using the traditional method of sculpting the bust in clay and creating a plaster cast from his clay model. During this period it was more popular in ethnographic sculpture to create a plaster cast from a live model.
