Widely believed to be a Roman marble copy of a Greek bronze original of a Greek goddess probably the famous Athena Lemnia by Phidias, which stood on the Acropolis in Athens. The original piece was from c.450 B.C.E. The copy was probably by a Greek artist of the first century B.C.E. Furtwangler has identified the marble head in the Museo Civico at Bologna and two full statues in Dresden as copies of the original Athena Lemnia by Phidias.
