A wonderful piece by the sculptor Desiderio Da Settignano (1428-1464) whom was a master at portraying the faces of women and children. A master at capturing the innocence in a face of a child this piece is a wonderful example of his skill with the beautifully executed proportions and soft contours of the head, gentle pout, uplifted eyebrows and wide eyes gazing at the world before him. The original piece is part of the Andrew W. Mellon Collection at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. c.1455.
