Germain Pilon Sculpture Reproductions
1535-1590 Germain Pillon was a French sculptor of great skill. At the age of 20 Pilon was employed on the decoration of the tomb of King Francis I at Saint-Denis. Pilon’s best known works are the funerary sculptures of Henry II. It was customary during this period in time for men of high status to have 3 separate burial sites, one for the heart, one for the body and one for the entrails. Pilon created the monument to hold the urn for King Henry II’s heart and the principal tomb of Henry II and Catherine de Medici.
