1819-1911 Thomas Ball began his career painting miniatures. He had no formal training as a sculpture and in 1851 turned to modeling with the bust of “Jenny Lind”. His first life sized bust was of Daniel Webster completed in 1853. Following that he created a statuette of Webster which became one of the first sculptures to be patented and mass produced in the United States.
